Books We Love!

Books can be so helpful when teaching children something new - and swimming is no exception! See below for some of the books our staff recommends for young swimmers!

Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim

One note about this book: We love that it teaches kids that they must wait to get in until an adult can watch them. The part we do not like is that it advocates for lifejackets as a normal part of swimming. Unless in open water, we do not advocate for puddle jumpers, lifejackets, etc.. These floatation devices give kids a false sense of independence in the water which can be incredibly dangerous. Instead, adults should be within arms reach of children that are not independent swimmers at all times in the pool.

Swimming Lessons with Stewie the Duck

One note about this book: We LOVE it! It talks about blowing bubbles, kicking, floating, rolling over to float and much more and includes songs to go with it. It’s a hit! But, it’s out of print so the new editions are more expensive than a typical book so check out the used editions!
